I just don't get it...



EVERYtime I go to meet someone from VR, it happens.



We end up at a resturaunt at some point.



We end up finding out we have all sorts of things in common. And raising hell about life in general and VR in particular...to a great deal of hilarity from the waitstaff...



We ALWAYS get put at a table with old people in the general vicinity...



And we ALWAYS end up either scaring, running off, or startling ALL neighboring tables half to DEATH....



hehehehehehehe.....



In the immortal words of Peter Venckman:



"Boys, boys, you're scaring the straights, okay?"



I had a wonderful time. Jaime and Josh are every bit as warm, wonderful and hysterical as I expected them to be, and I told them so there. I felt like we had known each other for years, same as I did with the gals from Kentucky, and why not? We have, in a sense.



But honestly....I'm gonna start wearing my VR shirt, and telling the greeters NOT to put us around small children, old people, animals.......



and here we go....

Anybody who has kept up with my journal since it's inception knows that I have a "thing". Some call it empathy, some call it intuition, some don't call it at all, cause they think I'm making it all up.



Most of you know me better than that.



It has been a long time since I have been around a person who immediately set off all my alarms and I didn't even have to get CLOSE to the person, much less talk to or touch them.



I worked a wedding Saturday night, which involved training one of the new bartenders. The wedding thankfully ended early so I ended up leaving work at 12:30 instead of the function being over then. And a good thing it was, because I had to be BACK at work at 10:00 the next morning (hence why the aforementioned meeting with LordV and LadyC hasn't gotten in here yet: uploading even as we speak...lol)



I got up at 8, got ready, and got to work with 15 minutes to spare. Again, I was training the OTHER new bartender this day, so I had alot of free time on my hands while he was getting settled into being behind the bar with us. So while he was working, I was leaning against the bar and watching the Arbonne ladies drift into the room, and find their tables for their plated lunch and Mercedes giveaway. I turned around to check on the new guy, who was doing fine, and then looked back at the door.



That's when SHE walked in. I don't get this often, as a matter of fact, looking back, I was still working at the Hilton in Tallahassee the first time it happened, and the last time before this one. She was willowy, dark hair, carrying a 3 month old on one hip, pretty dress, smiling and talking to all around her. But I looked at her eyes, and not just into them, but at them.



The skin on her face was so tight around her skull, she might as well not have had the covering. The circles under her eyes had completely bypassed dark and gone straight to black, even underneath her eye makeup. And looking into her eyes made me physically ill. There simply wasn't anything there. It was like looking at two flat, wet, black rocks. It was like looking death straight in the face when he doesn't care if you see him for real or not. Trust me when I tell you, this was a thoroughly upsetting and unsettling sensation, and I quickly disappeared into the kitchen for a few minutes to catch my breath.



I have a friend at work. Diane is one of the chefs, and we have been best friends since I started at Westwood. All I did was walk into the kitchen, she took one look at me and RAN to the cooler and yanked open the door. I spent a good 10 minutes in there, trying to get a grip on myself, but I did, and I came back out. I let her know I was ok, and I would tell her later- she nodded and off we each went (again, she is one of the biggest reasons I keep going back to work out there...lol)



I went back out to the bar, only to discover that this woman was sitting at the table virtually in front of the bar. Since it was a plated function, the servers were running out in stages; bread and butter, then salads, then the main course, which was where they were when I walked out.



I watched this woman as she sat at the table. She had her son face down across her lap, trying to eat and balance him at the same time, and NO ONE was helping her. That look on her face was beginning to look like it was going to be carved in stone, and suddenly I had the most brilliant flashback I have ever had in my life. I could feel everything she was feeling, because I had gone through EXACTLY the same thing. I got pregnant, had Connor, and EVERYBODY around me just automatically assumed that I was instantly going to become the perfect mother, they wouldn't have to do a thing, and woohoo, all's right with the world.



Didn't happen. And of course those of you who read my journal also know what happened after.



I tighten my grip on my stomach, and my legs, and walked over to the table. I leaned over the lady, and when she turned around to look at me I thought I was going to literally vomit right there in front of her. But I pushed it all down, got a grip on my faculties, and asked "Would you like me to hold him so that you can eat the rest of your lunch? I'd love to if you don't mind."





.........wow



Her face just seemed to suddenly develop it's own glow from inside, to almost become fluid and rearrange itself, she smiled at me, and said "Sure, if you want to that would be nice."



So I wandered around the Pan room bar for about 20 minutes, cooing and talking to this little bit of kidlet, rocking him and bouncing him around, and just in general keeping him happy. Once mom was through, I returned him to her arms, asked her if she was through I would get her plate and silverware out of the way, and the smile she gave me was one that not only will I not forget, but absolutely broke my heart...



I did the right thing, and I feel good about it. But I hope that God sees fit to put someone who can help her in her path, because that is a woman living on the edge, and I hope I NEVER see something like that again....

We had to change out the soda bags in boxes for the Gallery bar, because we so seldom use it during the winter, most of the sodas and juices that come from the gun had expired. One of them was a completely full bag of coke, which we managed to get out of the box holding it, and get into the sink. I looked at Joel, who was helping me, and he handed me a large steak knife, and said "Do you want to?"



I took that knife, and literally gutted that syrup bag. I am here to tell you, that was one of the most satisfying, bizarre, and releasing things I have EVER done....



And yes, it was JUST like that.....

If you have ever used an electric fence (and even if you haven't) you should read this



If you don't laugh hysterically at this,...CHECK YOUR PULSE...this is

funny....and true. This was sent by a retired dentist.







We have the standard 6 ft. fence in the backyard, and a few months ago, I heard about burglaries increasing dramatically in the entire city.

To make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric fence and ran a single wire along the top of the fence.



Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made for 26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. long ground rod, and drove it 7.5

feet into the ground. The ground rod is the key, with the more you have in the ground, the better the fence works.



One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart 6 hp big wheel push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the yard. I knew for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the mower around the wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of the way. It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all.



Now I'm standing there, I've got the running lawnmower in my right hand and the 1.7 giga-volt fence wire in the other hand. Keep in mind the charger is about the size of a marine battery and has a picture of an upside down cow on fire on the cover............ Time stood still.



The first thing I notice is my pecker trying to climb up the front side of my body. My ears curled downwards and I could feel the lawnmower ignition firing in the backside of my brain. Every time that Briggs &

Stratton rolled over, I could feel the spark in my head. I was literally at one with the engine.



It seems as though the fence charger and the piece of shit lawnmower were fighting over who would control my electrical impulses.



Science says you cannot crap, pee, and vomit at the same time. I beg to differ. Not only did I do all three at once, but my bowels emptied 3

different times in less than half of a second. It was a Matrix kind of bowel movement, where time is creeping along and you're all leaned back

and BAM BAM BAM you just crap your pants 3 times. It seemed like there were minutes in between but in reality it was so close together it was like exhaust pulses from a big block Chevy turning 8 grand.



At this point I'm about 30 minutes (maybe 2 seconds) into holding onto the fence wire. My hand is wrapped around the wire palm down so I can't let go.. I grew up on a farm so I know all about electric fences ... but Dad always had those piece of shit chargers made by International or whoever that were like 9 volts and just kinda tickled.



This one I could not let go of. The 8 foot long ground rod is now accepting signals from me through the permadamp Ark-La-Tex river

bottom soil At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to just man up and take it, until the lawnmower runs out of gas.



'Damn!,' I think, as I remember I just filled the tank!



Now the lawnmower is starting to run rough. It has settled into a loping run pattern as if it had some kind of big lawnmower race cam in it.

Covered in poop, pee, and with my vomit on my chest I think 'Oh God, please die ....Pleeeeaze die'. But nooooo, it settles into the rough lumpy

cam idle nicely and remains there, like a big bore roller cam EFI motor waiting for the go command from its owner's right foot.



So here I am in the middle of July, 104 degrees, 80% humidity, standing in my own backyard, begging God to kill me. God did not take me that day ...he left me there covered in my own fluids to writhe in the misery my own stupidity had created.



I honestly don't know how I got loose from the wire ..I woke up laying on the ground hours later. The lawnmower was beside me, out of gas. It was later on in the day and I was sunburned.



There were two large dead grass spots where I had been standing, and then another long skinny dead spot where the wire had laid while I was on the ground still holding on to it. I assume I finally had a seizure and in the resulting thrashing had somehow let go of the wire.



Upon waking from my electrically induced sleep I realized a few things:



1- Three of my teeth seem to have melted.



2- I now have cramps in the bottoms of my feet and my right butt cheek

(not the left, just the right).



3- Poop, pee, and vomit when all mixed together, do not smell as bad as

you might think.



4- My left eye will not open.



5- My right eye will not close.



6- The lawnmower runs like a sumbitch now. Seriously! I think our little session cleared out some carbon fouling or something, because it was better than new after that.



7- My nuts are still smaller than average yet they are almost a foot long.



8- I can turn on the TV in the game room by farting while thinking of the number 4 (still don't understand this???).



That day changed my life. I now have a newfound respect for things. I appreciate the little things more, and now I always triple check to make sure the fence is unplugged before I mow.



The good news, is that if a burglar does try to come over the fence, I can clearly visualize what my security system will do to him, and THAT

gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, which also reminds me to triple check before I mow.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to

immediately clear your computer history if you die.



2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.



3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.



14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.



15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?), but when I immediately call back,

it rings nine times and goes to voicemail.

What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the

phone and run away?



16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day.

What a waste.



17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.



18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.



19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

'Designing Women' star Dixie Carter dies at 70

By ANDREW DALTON, Associated Press Writer Sun Apr 11, 1:21 AM PDT "Designing Women" star Dixie Carter, whose Southern charm and natural beauty won her a host of television roles, has died at age 70.



Carter died Saturday morning, according to publicist Steve Rohr, who represents Carter and her husband, actor Hal Holbrook. He declined to disclose the cause of death or where she died. Carter lived with Holbrook in the Los Angeles area.



"This has been a terrible blow to our family," Holbrook said in a written statement. "We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy."



A native of Tennessee, Carter was most famous for playing wisecracking Southerner Julia Sugarbaker for seven years on "Designing Women," the CBS sitcom that ran from 1986 to 1993. The series was the peak of a career in which she often played wealthy and self-important but independent Southern women.



She was nominated for an Emmy in 2007 for her seven-episode guest stint on the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives."



Carter's other credits include roles on the series "Family Law" and "Different Strokes."



She married Holbrook in 1984. The two had met four years earlier while making the TV movie "The Killing of Randy Webster," and although attracted to one another, each had suffered two failed marriages and were wary at first.



They finally wed two years before Carter landed her role on "Designing Women." Holbrook appeared on the show regularly in the late 1980s as her boyfriend, Reese Watson.



The two appeared together in her final project, the 2009 independent film "That Evening Sun," shot in Tennessee and based on a short story by Southern novelist William Gay.



The middle of three children, Carter was born in 1939 in McLemoresville, Tenn.



Carter was the daughter of a grocery and department store owner who died just three years ago at 96. She said at the time of his death that he taught her to believe in people's essential goodness.



"When I asked him how he handled shoplifting in his new store, which had a lot of goods on display, making it impossible to keep an eye on everything, he said, 'Most people are honest, and if they weren't, you couldn't stay in business because a thief will find a way to steal,'" Carter said. "'You can't really protect yourself, but papa and I built our business believing most people are honest and want to do right by you.'"



Carter grew up in Carroll County and made her stage debut in a 1960 production of "Carousel" in Memphis. It was the beginning of a decades-long stage career in which she relied on her singing voice as much as her acting.



She appeared in TV soap operas in the 1970s, but did not become a national star until her recurring roles on "Different Strokes" and another series, "Filthy Rich," in the 1980s.



Those two parts led to her role on "Designing Women," a comedy about the lives of four women at an interior design firm in Atlanta.



Carter and Delta Burke played the sparring sisters who ran the firm. The series also starred Annie Potts and Jean Smart.



The show, whose reruns have rarely left the airwaves, was not a typical sitcom. It tackled such topics as sexism, ageism, body image and AIDS.



"It was something so unique, because there had never been anything quite like it," Potts told The Associated Press at a 2006 cast reunion. "We had Lucy and Ethel, but we never had that exponentially expanded, smart, attractive women who read newspapers and had passions about things and loved each other and stood by each other."



Carter appeared on the drama "Family Law" from 1999 to 2002, and in her last major TV appearance she played Gloria Hodge, the surly mother-in-law to Marcia Cross's Bree on "Desperate Housewives."



Carter said the role was far from the kindly woman she played on "Designing Women."



"It's a vast difference," Carter said while filming the series. "Gloria Hodge doesn't have any redeeming qualities except her intelligence."



In addition to Holbrook, Carter is survived by daughters Mary Dixie and Ginna.

A young man in a kilt, about 10-12 yrs old, walking up to the bar, so I asked him if he wanted another diet coke, and he looks at me and says in the most adorable Scottish accent "Am I that predictable?" to which I replied "Honey, when you do this for a living, EVERYBODY is predictable."



A man who spent all night flirting with the other YOUNGER bartender, then when we closed the bar, lands on MY bar, saying he just wants one more. I told him no, everything was put up already. But I love you, he says to me....and in true Julia Sugarbaker form, I announce to the rest of the room:



"Oh, HELL no. You do NOT just spend over 2 hours parking your ASS at the other bar, flirting with my YOUNGER bartender, and then come over here and tell me you love me to get another drink after we have already closed for the night. If you think for ONE minute that you are going to get anything from me, you can KISS my ASS."



The man laughed so hard, he spit out his gum, and his buddies laughed at him and told him next time to suck up to the boss instead of the other bartender...

Yet she and her coven members bombed my profile because they didn't like a rate I had supposedly given to a member. And they also threatened bullied and harassed me to make me change my rate to what THEY wanted it to be. And as it turned out, which you would know if you had read my journal, their assumption that I had rated one of their members a "1" was a LIE. So the only reason they caused all this trouble for me was because of a lie and to start trouble. So seems to me that if you are supporting them in their actions, you are definitely backing the wrong horse. And all LordV did was to give them a taste of their own medicine. So, let me get this straight:



1) They can rate whatever they want, but I can't.

2) they can down rate me because they don't like my rating, despite the fact that I NEVER gave any of their members a one, but my friends can't do the same in defense of me.

3) I am supposed to admit that I made some sort of mistake, but as the whole site now knows, I didn't rate anybody a one, OR block them, but they are supposed to be the victims here.



Right. Have fun living with that. .I am done with this, because the stupidity is never going to stop, and I have better things to do with my time.

I want to let everyone know that while the coven of Fratrem Draconis tried to bully me, threaten me and harrass me into changing a rate that we all now know I never gave, the one member who showed true manners, gentlemanly behavior and total graciousness, who went to bat for me with Aracon, for all the good it did him, and who tried to mediate this peacefully from the start, was Wraith. While I have no sympathy for the rest of the coven, he tried to help, he came and asked my side, and tried to mitigate the damage this all did. So please, for all of you who are standing by me through all this, bear in mind that while in that coven, he had no part in this madness.

Well, well, well. I saw a stamp on someone's profile that said VR- we know drama.



We certainly do, don't we. And when things get dull around here, we can always count on some of the people around here to create it just to keep the conversation lively.



And so it has been for the past few days.



I rate profiles. EVERYBODY rates profiles. I don't always like what I see, because of shitty attitudes, moronic sentences, or just total lack of imagination. Throw in a couple of "if you want to know ask" or "if you don't like it fuck you" and Ima gonna give the "PROFILE" a one. Period. That's just the way I roll. But I am ALWAYS willing to go back and rerate any profile if a person updates and asks like a mature, civilized adult.



I don't respond well to threats.



So when the Coven of Fratrem Draconis swooped onto my profile in defense of one of their own because I supposedly gave that profile a one, and TOLD me I had to change the rating or ELSE......



It all went into my journal. Damn skippy- think I'm just going to stick all that in an anonymous file on my computer somewhere and just bury it? Think I'm not going to let EVERYBODY know the truth about what went on?



Think again.



And in so doing, I gave this coven enough rope to hang themselves, make themselves look as stupid as they are, and a chance for a MULTITUDE of people to come out of the veritable woodwork both pro and con.



Here's the deal.



I am well within my rights to rate anyone anything I SEE FIT. Be that a ten or a one, it is my RIGHT. And as I have reiterated to these people AD NAUSEUM, I do not rate people. I rate profiles, and I don't revenge rate. Ain't my style, and not worth the trouble. I rate the profile what it is worth according to MY standards.



So. After three days of this crap, and not ONE SINGLE member coming forward from that coven to tell me that THEY were the one I rated a one, and not one single OTHER member of that coven nor it's CM being able to give me a name, I put on hip waders and went a huntin'....



Know what I found out?



That virtually all of the members of Fratrem Draconis were now in ANOTHER coven. So I sleuthed a bit, found the coven, and went through



EVERY. SINGLE. MEMBER.



Ya know what I discovered?



MOST of the members I hadn't even rated.



Of the ones I DID rate, most of them got a TEN.



The LOWEST rating I gave out was a 3.



There is not a single, solitary one rating in the entire BUNCH.



NOT. ONE.

Problem is, she fucked up, she ordered her coven members to attack me for NO reason, she created drama where none existed, she lied not just to people on this site but to some of her own coven members, who also lied, and she refused to listen to reason. Anyone who has ANY doubt about any of this can see for themselves in my journal, my ratings and comments, and the comments in my journal. And that is WHY I put all this in my journal. So people could see the truth. And now she is so deep, she can't get out or stay in without looking stupid.

It never fails to amaze me that we can drift along, day to day, either here or in life in general, but then suddenly something can go boom and you think you are standing in the middle of the shitstorm all alone.



But the dust settles (so to speak)



And you look around.



And suddenly, you see why and for who you hang around this site for. And for that I would like to say thank you.



To Images in Words, Moonie, Nightgame, and Vampirewitch39 who had such intense and supportive things to say in their journals, I say thank you.

To all the new friends I made as a result of this, I thank you too. It’s nice to know that even people I have never met are willing to stand up and say what they believe in to support someone they don’t even know. You guys are the bomb.

I find it funny that Aracon, CM of Fratrem Draconis, is threatening me with ones from her coven et al., thinking she can scare me into changing a rate, and yet this same woman has it clearly posted how she rates on her profile page. Yet apparently she and only she can have guidelines on how she rates....

It would seem that we have a coven of babies on here. I went off rating on Sunday night, because I had use of the computer, and as usual, after wiping the blood from my eyes, I rated according to guidelines which are CLEARLY posted in my journal. I don't rate people an automatic 10 just because they have a profile here. Just sticking your name in a computer is not sufficient to earn a ten in my book, but I am generally more generous than a one. AND I usually leave my stamp letting people know I will rerate if and when they update their profile.



I have been this way for 5 YEARS since I joined this site, updated my own profile with help from members who had been here longer, and set up what I judged profiles on.



Most of the time, I piss people off, cause they take it personally. Know what? Don't care.



So apparently I have attracted the attention of The Coven of Fratrem Draconis, because I rated one of the members a one. Notice that in all the messages, no one ever mentioned WHO it was I rated a one, just that they were going to "bomb" me with ones.



Like I care. I didn't join this site to win any popularity contests, and I ain't about to start now. You don't like the rate I gave you? FIX IT. Leave me a message that you have changed something, and I will certainly come back by and take a look. Take a look at the messages:

I was not being horrible to you. I rate profiles based on their substance and content, not just how many pretty pictures and glittery things they have. I did not judge you in any way. I rated you a six because you had an attractive profile, but there was nothing of any substance about you beyond a paragraph or two. I am well within my rights as a premium member of this site to rate profiles as I see fit, based on my own criteria. If you do not agree with that, then I am sorry. But I am not going to adjust my standards just because you got a bunch of your coven mates to bomb my profile. I could care less.

First of all, I am entitled to rate profiles as I see fit, according to my own guidelines. Something you should be well acquainted with, since you have your own set plastered on your profile. If I rated someone a 1, it was because either there was absolutely nothing worth it's substance on their profile, or they were inflammatory and rude. Those are MY rules, and I will abide by them as I see fit. I will change my rating when AND if the profile is changed sufficiently to my guidelines to warrant a rate change, NOT because you and your band of kiddie thugs threatened me with low rates and messages and blocking me. If you don't like it, take it up with Cancer, or any of the other members who can do something about it. And since I have NO idea which member you are talking about, I'm not going to go back through all the profiles I rated and hunt it up. And, here are the messages that your coven members sent me, and my responses, just so there is NO confusion. One messaged me, threatened me with a low rate, told me to change my rate on this member whoever they are, and then BLOCKED me. So her message is of course not here.

So shall we hit the highlights?



They had a band called "Pop junkies" and these guys absolutley rocked. Best music I've heard in a long time, and they even did Skynard, Georgia Satellites, and AC?DC.



The groom's mom walked into the room looking like she had just bit into a lemon stuffed with catshit, I kid you not.. I'm not sure what it was she didn't approve of, but I'm just saying.....



One of the Bride's uncles bought a bottle of 10 year old Dom Perignon, which I made sure was tucked away in the cooler to get cold, took care of, then had him tell me I didn't know how to properly open a bottle of champagne....



I had one lady who wanted a sauvignon blanc spritzer, with perrier or san pelligrino, both of which we were out of, so she said she would just have to "suffer" with club soda if that was the "best" I could do....amazing how congenial she got when she was on her tenth one and wanted that one last drink after last call...lol



I had this little lady who was in her 50's and sounded like Betty boop, asking for a glass of wine and a glass of ice...



I had a MULTITUDE of guys in their 60's who thought playing air guitar for me was just the shizzle...



And I had one guy who got his drink, smarted off at me, and who promptly got schooled in return, who said point blank "You're evil, but I love you"

Facebook Flub Leaks Private E-mail Addresses

For a short time, e-mail addresses that were meant to be hidden were made available.





Private e-mail addresses that many Facebook users wanted to keep hidden were revealed publicly last night on a multitude of Facebook profiles, Gawker reports. The glitch lasted about 30 minutes before Facebook sealed the gap.



An anonymous tipster altered Gawker of the breach in an expletive-riddled message: "6:46PM: I cannot [bleeping] believe it. Everybody's email has been turned on to the public for at least the past 30 min. I tried going into my account to remove my email b/c I have an issue with a crazed stalker. But I wasn't able to. God I [bleeping] hate FB!! When will they ever learn?!"



It might be that Facebook's recently proposed changes to its privacy settings could be to blame for the hiccup. PC World writer Paul Suarez reported that "One of those changes [to Facebook's Privacy Policy and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities] would make it possible for Facebook to send your name, photo, friend list, and any public information about you and your friends to preapproved third-party Web sites." A slight tweak to broadcasting profile information could have resulted in this embarrassing flub.



Facebook desperately wants to be known as a site where users can expect a reasonable amount of privacy, but sometimes this isn't the case. Briefingsofpreviousmistakes make it clear that Facebook has a lot of work to do, possibly at the risk of tarnishing its original smiles and hugs philosophy. Thankfully this most recent trip-up only lasted approximately 30 minutes; any longer would have spelled disaster.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The first discovery was gruesome enough: a head and torso tucked inside a red biohazard tub that arrived at a Kansas company. Then it got worse. Six more heads and torsos showed up in the next week after someone apparently dismembered the bodies with a chain saw or another cutting device, police said.

Authorities are investigating a New Mexico company that was supposed to have donated the organs in the bodies to science and had the remains cremated. The owner of the Albuquerque company, 31-year-old Paul Montano, was arrested Thursday.

One man whose father's head and torso showed up in Kansas in the shipment said the family received ashes of what they thought was their 83-year-old dad after he died of a stroke.

Now they are in shock at the thought that the ashes they scattered in a heartfelt remembrance last year may not have been their father — or at least not all of him.

"To not give you everything and to have the head shipped some place else, it's really disturbing," said Chuck Hines, of Bosque Farms, N.M.

The 31-year-old owner of Bio Care Southwest denied dismembering any bodies. He told police his father picks up and delivers bodies to Bio Care. The investigation is ongoing; his alleged motive was not immediately known.

Bio Care receives donated bodies and harvests organs and other parts that it sells for medical research. The researchers return the organs to Bio Care once their experiments are complete, then Bio Care sends the remains for cremation and gives the ashes to the families, investigators said.

Bio Care's Web site says its mission is to advance medicine through donated non-transplantable human tissue, allowing scientists to study a donor's organs to better understand disease.

"At Bio Care, you will always be treated with dignity, respect and honesty," its home page says.

The company has a contract with Stericycle, based in Kansas City, Kan., to dispose of any leftover medical waste.

Stericycle told investigators it receives medical waste, soft tissue and organs and occasional limbs — but never heads and torsos. Homicide detectives in Kansas City began investigating the grim body part discoveries, and they were eventually traced back to New Mexico.

Court documents identified three of the bodies as Jacquelyn Snyder, Charles Hines and Harold Dillard.

Snyder, 42, died Nov. 1 in Albuquerque of a methadone overdose, and Hines died last September of a stroke, according to officials and family members. Dillard was from Albuquerque, but the cause of his death was not immediately known.

The younger Hines turned to Bio Care to harvest his father's organs for science after learning it would take up to a year to get the body back if he donated it to a university. The process was much quicker with Bio Care.

Bio Care sent back a sealed box with what Hines was told were all his father's cremated remains. He memorialized his father at a simple gathering of friends last October at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, an event the elder Hines helped organize decades ago. Hines scattered a few ashes at the site and took ashes to Tucson, Ariz., where his father grew up.

He said he felt "scammed" and was going to contact an attorney.

Robert Noblin, owner of Riverside Funeral Home in Belen, N.M., where Hines learned about Bio Care, said his company had worked with Bio Care. "Unfortunately, I think many funeral homes and families alike have been misled," Noblin said.

He said he is "deeply concerned" about the families and loved ones "whose remains have been desecrated or improperly dealt with by Bio Care Southwest."

"We are troubled, industrywide, when anyone does not follow procedures designed to protect the sanctity of a body or remains of any individual."

Riverside would receive sealed, labeled containers from Bio Care Southwest that were supposed to cremated remains, which the funeral home would then give to its clients.

Montano also is an on-call employee for the state Office of the Medical Investigator. He's on a rotating list of medical examiners to be called out in Valencia Count when bodies fall under the state's jurisdiction, said spokeswoman Amy Boule.

Montano was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center late Wednesday on three counts of fraud. A judge on Thursday lowered his bond from $100,000 bond to $50,000, citing Montano's ties to the community.

Montano's attorney, Rudy Chavez, did not return a call Thursday seeking comment.

Montano said Tuesday his company wasn't involved in the body parts found in Kansas. He did not return several messages left by The Associated Press on Wednesday, and the main telephone number that had been listed on Bio Care's Web site had been disconnected Thursday.

The case brought back memories of another gruesome body parts scandal in recent years.

A New Jersey funeral home operator made millions of dollars by plundering hundreds of bodies sent to funeral homes on the East Coast and selling their often-diseased parts and tissues to medical companies. Among the bodies carved up without permission were that of "Masterpiece Theatre" host Alistair Cooke.
